Tommy Taylor needs a miracle. He has uncontrollable high blood pressure and had been in a clinical trial for the last six years.

But in one week, he will have surgery to remove a device from his chest that has been keeping him alive.

He doesn’t want your sympathy. He wants your prayers.

“Psalms 118 verse 17. I shall not die but live and declare the works of the Lord,” Taylor said.

Throwback Thursday – Billboards on Broadway by John Greco

Back in the glory days, Times Square had more movie theaters than there were peanuts in a peanut factory. The bright lights of the theaters were part of what lit up the Great White Way. Today, there is not one movie theater to be found in the Broadway area. Some of those now long gone palaces were huge like the Roxy that had close to 6,000 seats. As big as the theaters were, the signs advertising the movies were even bigger. Sometimes they were ever better than or at least as interesting as the movies themselves.

This is one of my favorites. I love the way the film’s title is bookended by the binding of two books. The Billy Wilder film, based on Charles R. Jackson’s best selling novel, was considered strong stuff at the time. The theater here is the Rivoli.

Out of Home Advertising Up 4.7% in Q1 2015

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 21, 2015 (Washington, DC) – Out of home (OOH) advertising revenue rose 4.7 percent in the first quarter of 2015 compared to the previous year, accounting for $1.59 billion, based on figures released by the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA). The revenue increase marks the industry’s 20th consecutive quarter of growth. OOH outperformed all other forms of traditional media, which as a whole were down, according to Kantar Media.

Intense competition for tourists and newcomers features out of home (OOH) advertising designed to boost economies by encouraging Americans to consider a change of scenery.

States are increasing marketing efforts, according to the US Travel Association. “There is a trend to increase the dollars spent, and the state tourism bureaus are getting more sophisticated in how they market, brand and incorporate social media,” said Nan Marchand Beauvois, vice president of national councils.
